Westchester classic

Situated on an extraordinary property in Westchester County, this passive solar home is remarkable for seamlessly integrating the house with the landscape. Large boulders, sourced from the property, firmly anchor the main entry and wrap around porch with a level lawn.

Large windows in the primary living spaces look out toward a massive rocky ravine, which inspired us to create a fifty-foot recirculating waterfall. The sight and sound of water gives enormous pleasure from the great room, master bedroom suite, kitchen, and extensive terraces along the southern side of the house. The waterfall’s soothing cascade can be heard from the entire house and property.

A large overhanging roof, which seems to float above its shadow, and a spacious shady wrap porch unify the house and communicate substance. These deftly designed architectural elements discreetly lessen the visual impact of a 9,000 square foot house with six bedrooms and even more baths.

Luxurious materials and custom detailing throughout the house provide a sophisticated level of design detail that is to be expected from Riverside Design.
